WHAT IS PYLON RACING?
Pylon racing is one of aviation’s fastest forms of motorsport. Aircraft race head-to-head around a closed course marked by pylons, flying at low altitude and high speed.
There are no second chances. Pilots must manage speed, position, aircraft performance and the other racers around them, all while staying within the course and above the minimum race altitude of between 50ft and 250ft.
In the Jet Class, speeds can exceed 500 mph, with aircraft separated by only seconds.
HOW THE RACE WORKS
Jet racing is not simply about who has the fastest aircraft. It is about qualifying, positioning, strategy and flying a precise race line while competing head-to-head around the course.
Pilots first qualify against the clock, with qualifying speeds determining race groups and starting positions.
During the race, aircraft enter the course together before being released to race around the pylons. From there, every second counts. Pilots must maintain their race line, manage traffic and aircraft performance, and remain within the course limits.
The first aircraft across the finish line wins, subject to any penalties incurred during the race.

The National Championship Air Races (NCAR) entered a new era with the move to Roswell, New Mexico, bringing a new course, new pylons and an entirely new challenge for the world’s fastest racers.

CCTRacing Australia was there from the beginning.
We won the very first race held at Roswell, and with it, the first Jet Class race at the new home of the National Championship Air Races.
Today, CCTRacing continues to compete in the Jet Class, representing Australia on one of aviation’s most exciting international racing stages.
